Congratulations on 9 years!!! I will FOREVER be grateful to your book, We Are the Luckiest. It was the first book I read that really spoke to me - your opening chapter pulled me in and I knew I had to stop with the excuses. I have 19 months and I appreciate your reminder to stay with it. I heard someone say once to stay on the bus (sobriety), don't get off - the view does/will change.

I JUST talked about how you said "One day you won't think about it so much, it'll just be who you are" in my TLC share yesterday on my 2 YEAR SOBERVERSARY!

I shared how I heard you but didn't fully believe you at first because I was in that difficult first stage where it consumed every thought and I really couldn't see how it could be different. BUT, I did take your advice to "keep going" and here I am, 2 whole years later in the part where it is just part of who I am. I still have work to do, of course, but I'm working on me now, not just working to quit drinking.

Thank you for your words and your support and I am SO EXCITED that you are working on a new book.

Congrats on 9 years!

So much in this Laura. Firstly happy 9 years. I love how you write about the work it takes. The effort it takes. Tomorrow I hit 27 months. The first 14 easy. The next 13 not so much. But I am doing it. Doing life. I also love how you talk about the process of the new book (how lucky are we !). I think I am beginning to realize that anything worth having, pursuing doesn’t come at a flick of a finger. Whether it’s sobriety, a work pursuit, a dream, a relationship, kids, health. It all takes dreams and commitment and tears and joy. As an add in without you and also Holly I wouldn’t be at 27 months tomorrow. I just would not. 🫶🙏🦋📖

It was so great to chat with you at the retreat and I am beyond excited for your next book. My first introduction to your work was your 7 year TMST episode. I was about 4 months sober and after many years of denial, I was finally setting my sights on long-term recovery. I loved your vibe and decided to follow you from there. You have helped me in more ways than I can count. For me, a 🦋 went💀 this morning as I finally made my first post. Looking forward to more. Thank you for all of it!!!

Congratulations on 9 years!! I found TLC on Facebook in late 2020 after spending the whole year locked up and taking full advantage of the opportunities it gave me to drink. I started following the group and seeing so many amazing examples of what sobriety looks like. I couldn’t see my life sober until i saw them. This December it will be three years for me. I am forever grateful to you, the group and anyone who is willing to bare their souls so others don’t feel alone. ✌️ 💡 ❤️

Two things: 1) I was at the writing retreat in SF and the only reason I found out about it is because you had it in your free Substack, which I was getting in my inbox because I followed you after I read your book, We Are The Luckiest. You are an effective and FUN speaker and your butterfly-killing talk and challenge to begin our projects RIGHT THEN was ballsy and (I already said it) effective. Brava! 2) Today is my 1000th day sober. I have not had a support group this entire time, however I did have your book (among a couple others) to read and your words reached where they needed to go in me to fortify what was already happening within me. I am reading your second book right now and there’s even more there, but your personal story - the generosity of your honesty was both salve and medicine. And I wanted to thank you personally. Also, - okay 3) I have decided to go to my first AA meeting tonight and speak my truth out loud (eesh!) because of the community, the healing of it and the feelings of expansion I felt this past weekend in Santa Fe. There is healing in community and I’m ready for that now. So yeah, I’m both feet in my recovery now. Thank you for paying it forward. I am so so appreciative. ❤️

This word “ballsy” that I used here has been making me cringe since I wrote it. It’s a gross word and it’s not what I meant. The word I wish I had used is “powerful”. And I wish I would have congratulated you on your 9 years. I have 1000 days of not drinking, but now just 3 days in recovery. There’s a big difference. Anyway, sorry, congratulations and thank you.
